The Patients’ Behbud Society for AKUH was founded in 2001 by well wishers of Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). Its main objective is to assist financially disadvantaged patients to avail high quality health care at AKUH. The society’s single source of funding is Zakat contributions (and donations) received from individuals, staff and employees of AKU, donors and corporates, which in turn are disbursed to mustehqeen in accordance with Shariah.
The Society is a legal entity managed by a group of prominent citizens independent of AKUH and its accounts are audited annually by a reputed firm of Chartered Accountants. Approved u/s 2(36) (C) of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 contribution eligible for tax credit u/s 61.
