Mwanza jamatkhana was built in 1957,
and believe it was designed by Mata Salmat

I am sure It was not built in 1957 but earlier perhaps in 1956, but the tower was not completed. The design was provided by Mata Salamat, Her Highness Begum Sultan Muhammad Shah. The Mukhi and Kamadia Sahebans were Vazir Hasham Jamal and Ebrahim Virji. The president of the council was Vazir Janmohamed Samji and the secretary was Madat Ebrahim Jamal. The opening was performed by Governor of Tanganyika Sir Edward Twining. I am sure the date it was opened must be in our councils records. (and I am anxious to know?) On this occasion Missionary Kadarali B.Patel was present and he introduced and recited our new Du’a.
Amir was lucky to film the opening ceremony on 8mm b/w which is now preserved on DVD and gifted along with his collection of 55 years of important events in our history and heritage to the library of the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London. (Visit library section of IIS website.)
In 2007, during Golden Jubilee we met you in Mwanza along with Vazir Mithu Jamal when your family very kindly invited us for lunch.
Warm regards.
