Muslim Piety – Edmonton Conference 2011

Friday April 29 – Sunday May 1, 2011

An International Conference organized by the Canadian Centre for Ethnomusicology-University of Alberta in partnership with the Association for the Study of Ginans.

Muslims across the world have given sonic shape to spiritual words. From spoken declamation to melodic chant, devotional repertoires expressing Muslim piety are abundant in their continuity and vitality.

    The “Ginan” only doesn’t Present the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims as a whole. Ginan is the only type of South Asia traditions only. The other words are MUNQABAT, QASEEDA, MANAQEEB etc. only presents the Ismaili Muslims as unanimously. The other words are from Persian, Dadri from Iran and Tajikistan & Afghanistan. Where the remaing two are from the Ismailes of Gilgit-Baltistan and China.

    We are thankful to ismailmail for the up-dates-but the basic concept in my openion are one and the same. Ginan was witten the PEERS of Subcontinent in the background of the Huindu and Sucontinent cultural background.

    While the other words are from the Persian literature and it is related to the Almout Period as well. What ud be the interpetations in the background of today’s senerio.—continue
