Calgary Ismaili Muslim Community helps to raise awareness about domestic violence

Calgary Muslims help fight domestic violence

Calgary Herald | June 16, 2009

CALGARY – The city’s Ismaili muslim community has formed a partnership with the Calgary women’s emergency shelter to help raise awareness about domestic violence.

“We just wanted to be sure we are as culturally astute as we should be,” said the shelter’s executive director, lisa Falkowsky. “so we’ve been looking for opportunities to try and learn more and to partner with organizations that will give us access to their members and their community.”

Karam-ali talakshi, a volunteer with the Ismaili muslim community, said they partner with a different agency every year to raise awareness about its cause among its members and the community.

In the past year, the shelter has also been working closely with the Chinese and Jewish communities to better understand their needs.

  1. We have seen your float over the last years and always have a large group. What we need is a girl 10 -13 Years old that would be willing to ride our float with us. One of our girls is not able to come. I have red satin outfit for them. All they need is white shirt and black pants. Judging is at 7:45. Thursday night…..

    Thankyou Anne Taylor
