Studio Rendering – Ashfaq Mohammed

Studio Rendering

Getting to do a rendering for a high rise is not an easy job; it requires a great deal of patience and the right clients to trust you. In most cases, it is the trust of an Architect who has spent every last minute of his life working on a building which may not even go up. So, it is left to the artist to visualize the building which is conceptualized by the Architect.

That image may even make or break the deal for the project.  While most architects still do their own drawings, it has become the challenge and mission of a young inspired Artist to change that.

As reluctant as Architects may be to hand off their work, Ashfaq Mohammed, in his first year of shop, has managed to do renderings for three of the top ten largest buildings in Chicago’s proposed skyline. The featured Waldorf=Astoria hotel and residential being the largest, will sit just a little over 1200 ft in the air, which would make it the fourth largest in Chicago’s downtown. The proposed building is by the developer Fordham, which originally planned to take the Chicago Spire, and the acclaimed Architectural firm of DeStefano + Partners.

Ashfaq studies Architecture at IIT in his final semester but has been and continues to be a gifted Artist. He has won many awards in Art including the Congressional Art Award, handed to him by congresswomen Jan Schakowsky. His love for Art was just as great as his love for Architecture and doing renderings for Architects seemed right.

Similar to painters trading in their brushes for photography, Ashfaq has chosen the computer and a 3D software to visualize what great architects are conceptualizing.  His unconventional ways have allowed him to work on projects from around the world including towers in: China, London, Dubai, Toronto, New York, LA and Las Vegas to name to a few. What is his secret?

Ramzan Sultani, a Northwestern graduate and entrepreneur who envisioned Studio Rendering, Inc., notes “Ash’s work defies the structure of time, his work can be described as photo realistic; however, it is more – it’s iconic. His team continues to create images which understand human desire and this is why he is given the types of projects he is getting”.

He accredits his talent to the love of Architecture and Art which was developed both in school and in his place of worship. As an Ismaili Muslim he was given many opportunities to participate in bigger art projects and amongst the Chicago community has become sort of a go to whenever one begins.
