‘Ali Suleyman Kasm is a contemporary Syrian Ismaili poet. Born in 1943, he obtained his early education at the Aga Khan Schools in Tal-adara and Salamiyya, and later went on to study law and the University of Damascus. Mr. Kasm has been a teacher for much of his professional life, including two years in Algeria. His qasidas are very popular in the Ismaili communities of Syria and elsewhere. The following verses are from al-Anashid al-diniyya (Salamiyya, 2nd ed., 1976)
