Dr. Begum Verjee has over 25 years experience working in the fields of diversity, critical multiculturalism and social justice. Begum obtained a M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from UBC in 1992, and completed a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy at the same institution in 2005. Begum was Co-Chair for the Canadian Critical Race Conference: Pedagogy and Practice held in Vancouver, May 2003. She was recently a member of the City of Vancouver Women’s Task Force currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Club – Vancouver, and is also a member of the Aga Khan Development Network Task Force, Vancouver. Begum has been employed as a counsellor, diversity advisor, and more recently as a Senior Advisor with Arts Advising Services at The University of British Columbia (UBC). She is also a sessional instructor at UBC and Kwantlen University College. Begum has received numerous awards at UBC such as ‘The Action to End Racism’ and ‘Not On Our Campus’ Awards. Her interest lies in organizational transformation through creating inclusive and equitable communities.
