HYDERABAD: Rs1.4bn to be spent on education, says nazim
HYDERABAD, Nov 25: The district government of Hyderabad would spend Rs1.4 billion on the promotion of education in rural areas in the current fiscal year, said District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Friday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Learning Resource Centre set up by the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) at Tando Haider, he regretted that despite huge expenditure, public sector educational institutions had failed to produce desired results.
The nazim said that indifferent and irresponsible attitude of some educational officials and teachers was to blame for the deteriorating standard of education. It was, however, an encouraging sign that some individuals and organisations were rendering their services voluntarily for the community-based schools, he said.
He praised AKES for establishing a training centre fully equipped with necessary wherewithal in Tando Haider. UC Nazim Mian Abdullah Shaikh also joined in the praise for AKES.
The nazim also laid the foundation stone for a girls middle school in Tando Wali Mohammad the same day. Addressing the stone-laying ceremony he feared that if the educational officers and teachers did not change their attitude, billions of rupees being spent on the promotion of education would go down the drain.
The nazim said that the district had formed an education monitoring committee to ensure that proper education was being imparted to the students.
At another function, the nazim distributed free of charge English syllabus books among the students of Mehran Girls School, Latifabad No.10 which has recently been converted into English medium school.
City Taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar, Naib Nazim Ghulam Shabbar Chishti, EDO Education Anwar Siddiqui and a large number of councillors and officials of the district government attended the function.
