Kampala Serena Hotel
Kampala, Uganda, November 10, 2006 – His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni and His Highness the Aga Khan inaugurated the new Kampala Serena Hotel.
The Kampala Serena hotel is the latest addition to the Serena Group of hotels, owned and operated by Tourism Promotion Services (TPS), an arm of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED). One of 17 Serena properties in Africa — others are in Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Mozambique — the Kampala Serena will have a significant economic, social and cultural impact in Uganda.
I grew up in this area of Kampala, and i’m happy to see this new development take off.
My hope is that the adjacent Kampala international conference center will be upgraded as well to refelct the overall standard set by Serena Hotels.

I think it is quite something to have the Imamat of the Ismaili community participate in the Ugandan recovery in such a significant way. The Ismaili community, one may recall from history, was one which the Ugandan leadership of the early 70’s removed from that country, while nationalizing property and funds.
As they say, forgive and forget! Bravo!
