Future is open for ex-candidates: Mohamed Dhanani

excerpt:

In Ward 26 (Don Valley West), first-time candidate
Mohamed Dhanani, an Ismaili Muslim, finished 214 votes
behind the winner, John Parker, a former Tory MPP.

“At 10:15 p.m. [election night], with 52 of 54 polls,
no one had called the election,” said Mr. Dhanani, one
of 15 candidates seeking to replace departing
councillor and mayoral challenger Jane Pitfield.

“We did the best we could and we introduced a whole
new group of people to civic politics,” said Mr.
Dhanani. He says he has been approached by two
political parties to run for provincial or federal
office.

Even three days before voting day, Mr. Dhanani was
hopeful of victory. Campaigning at a bus stop in
Leaside, he said “a silver-haired” woman in a Cadillac
drove by, honked at him and gave a thumbs-up. “That’s
when I said, ‘We’ve done something right.’ ”

  1. Do you have a current email address for Mr. Dhanani? I wanted to write to him during his campaign and still have it on my mind to contact him — I live in Ward 26.
