Coastweek – – Since 1998 Sun ‘n Sand hotel – partnered with an NGO (The Aga Khan Foundation) – has worked to address the local communities concerns to have their children well grounded in their faith and local culture while also increasing their readiness for, access to and success in later education.
| The Program presents a unique and innovative model that builds on volunteerism, partnerships, community ownership and involvement, capacity building, endowments, research and women leadership toward the creation and betterment of early childhood development initiatives. |
To date over 140 Kikambala children have benefited from the program (40 per cent girls). A school management committee comprising members from the community oversees the day-to-day operations.
Sun N Sand has continued to provide merit based scholarships to outstanding students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to access higher education.
Over 50 students have benefited from such sponsor ships and guests have donated over US $20,000 in school supplies and literature.
