The Rupani Foundation, in collaboration with Muhiban-e-Insaniyat and with the support of local community leadership, recently organized a Free Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Health Camp at the Gulzar-e-Hussain Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre. This initiative reflects Rupani Foundation’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of the communities it serves.
The camp catered to a wide demographic, including mothers, caretakers, grandparents of children enrolled in the ECD program, senior citizens, and other members of the local community. A total of 250 individuals benefited from this free service, which provided vital health diagnostics and consultations. The highlight of the camp was the use of a portable BMD machine, enabling quick and efficient assessments on-site, with test results connected to a laptop for precision and immediate reporting.

Insights and Observations
The results of the tests were cause for concern, with up to 70% of the individuals tested showing signs of osteoporosis or low bone density. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for awareness and intervention in promoting better lifestyle practices.
Farhan Jumani, Program Manager-South at Rupani Foundation, highlighted the cultural and lifestyle challenges contributing to these health issues. “The lifestyle in Karachi, regardless of community, needs a significant shift. Carbonated drinks should be avoided, and an active lifestyle must be encouraged within our communities. Simple changes can make a profound difference to the well-being of our society,” he stated during the camp.
Recognizing the importance of preventive healthcare, Rupani Foundation ensured the availability of subsidized medication, with Muhiban-e-Insaniyat offering essential medicines at a 25% discount. This effort underscores the foundation’s focus on accessible and affordable healthcare solutions for all.

Commitment to Community Well-Being
The event was a true testament to the power of collaboration, with multiple stakeholders coming together to make a positive impact. The Rupani Foundation extends its gratitude to Muhiban-e-Insaniyat and Dr. Rizwan Ahmed Abbasi and his team for their dedication and support in ensuring the camp’s success.
Looking ahead, Rupani Foundation aims to continue its mission by organizing more health camps and community events that prioritize the well-being of local communities.
