Aga Khan meets Governor of TelanganaImam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, Founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan on Tuesday met Governor E S L Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan.

After visiting Delhi and Gujarat, as part of his 10-day visit to India. He focused mostly on developmental initiatives undertaken by various wings associated with Ismaili community. The spiritual leader’s visit to the nation marks the 60th anniversary of his accession to the leadership of the Shia Ismaili Muslims.

During his meeting with Aga Khan, the Governor appreciated the various development programs undertaken by the AKDN and by its partner agencies of Aga Khan Foundation and Aga Khan Agency for habitat in the two Telugu States. The Governor assured full cooperation by both the State Governments to the development activities of these Agencies.

The Governor also appreciated the multi-faceted activities of the AKDN, particularly in the field of education, health care and in the restoration and preservation of Qutub Shahi Tombs in Hyderabad. Aga Khan informed the Governor that their Agencies have plans for launching various development programs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the next five years. The Governor felicitated the visiting dignitary by presenting a Memento.

Later during the day, Aga Khan took part in the community programmes as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations, under heavy security cover provided by the State Police. He addressed the gathering of Ismaili Muslims at the Nizam college grounds from across the State to have a glimpse of their spiritual leader.
