May 14, 2016 – The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Member of Parliament for Beauce (Quebec) and past Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Industry, travelled to Toronto to meet with a group of Ismaili leaders to share his reasons for running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Mr. Bernier was invited by Karim Jivraj, Conservative candidate in University-Rosedale, and Ismaili Council of Ontario Secretary Sadru Jetha to take a tour of the Ismaili Centre, before a lunch roundtable with Ismaili leaders. Hailing the Ismailis as a Canadian success story, Bernier explained his vision for Canada based on entrepreneurship, limited government and economic freedom, arguing that these are the very values that Ismailis hold dear.
