Dr. Ernst is the author of several books on Islam, including The Shambhala Guide to Sufism and Following Muhammad (which has been translated into Arabic, Persian, Turkish, German, and Korean.). He is a William R. Kenan, Jr., Distinguished Professor. A specialist in Islamic studies, with a focus on West and South Asia, his published research, based on the study of Arabic, Persian, and Urdu, has been mainly devoted to the study of Islam and Sufism.
