Dr Amr Abdalla delivered the 2016 Milad-un-Nabi Lecture on Retrieving Islam’s Humanistic Heritage: Islamic Perspectives on Conflict Resolution at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto.

The Milad event was organised by the Ismaili Council for Ontario in conjunction with Emmanuel College of Victoria University in the University of Toronto.

Dr. Amr Abdalla presents 2016 Milad un Nabi Lecture at Ismaili Centre, TorontoDr Amr Abdalla is a Senior Advisor on Policy Analysis and Research at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies of Addis Ababa University, and Senior Advisor on Conflict Resolution at KARAMAH (Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights). He was previously Vice President of the SALAM Institute for Peace and Justice in Washington, DC, and between 2004–13 he was Professor, Dean and Vice Rector at the United Nations-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica.

Dr Abdalla holds a Master’s degree in Sociology and PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University. Formerly a prosecuting attorney in Egypt, he pioneered the development of the first conflict resolution training manual for Muslim communities in the United States and founded Project LIGHT (Learning Islamic Guidance for Human Tolerance), a community peer-based anti-discrimination project.
