Few jewelers — if any — can boast that a Federal Reserve honcho sits on its advisory board.
But before Zameer Kassam, 36, launched his eponymous fine jewelry business in New York, his Harvard Business School professor was Robert Kaplan, now chief executive of Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and a former vice chairman of investment banking at Goldman Sachs.
It turns out that Kaplan comes from a family of jewelers and was Kassam’s mentor as he launched the business in 2012.
