Danisha Bhaloo’s passion is children and families.
Raised in Edmonton, Canada, she values the city of Edmonton deeply. Danisha connects with the community daily as the Manager of Fund Development with Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton, as well as a Member of the University of Alberta Senate, an Edmonton Opera Board Member, and Vice-Chair of the Edmonton John Howard Society Board of Directors.
As someone who grew up in challenging circumstances, she is committed to working with children and families who deal with poverty, bullying, low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, and despair concerning education, health and finances.
Danisha is running for the office of city council, to ensure that vulnerable Edmontonians have the same opportunity to thrive and contribute positively to the city. This can be achieved through crime prevention, education and the arts.
The recognization of her own ability to overcome stems from being surrounded by a strong community that embraced Danisha’s family when they needed it most. That motivated her to serve the city. She believes she owes it to her community now to give back for the help she received.

Speaking on the vision around community-building in Ward 12, Danisha said: “I believe in the value of engaging ward residents in setting the direction of their community. Engagement builds openness and reduces crime. For example, I want to see more safe places for children and families with revitalized community spaces in our neighbourhoods.”
She further conveyed the message: “Getting neighbours involved in that future is key to us all thriving together. Councillor Sohi began that work and I will continue his work balancing social and practical priorities for our community.”
Edmonton is already on course to being one of the best capital cities in the country. However, while the citizens can be passionate about their city, they still have work to do to strengthen it.
Danisha’s extensive experience across diverse boards and city-building projects across Edmonton has given her the opportunity to engage with community leaders and to help set the course for the city. She understands complex social issues, challenging fiscal constraints, being a responsible steward of other people’s money, and reducing the challenges that contribute to crime and poverty.
Danisha is the person who can bring a variety of views to the table to help grow the city of Edmonton in the right direction.
