AKDN Publication: Social and Economic Development Programmes of the Aga Khan Development Network in Uganda

Bujagali Hydropower Plant
The Bujagali Hydropower Plant has been registered as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), making it the largest project ever
registered in a Least Developed Country.

The various institutions of the Aga Khan Development Network in Uganda (AKDN) invest in development initiatives that empower individuals to improve their quality of life and offer more sustainable, scalable solutions to poverty than aid alone.

The Aga Khan Development Network is inspired by a strong ethical underpinning and long term commitment to the peoples of the country and region without regard to gender, origin or religion.

The building of enabling environments for development is one of the Network’s foremost goals in all areas of social and economic development. In Uganda, this goal has been served through the establishment of formal agreements of cooperation with the government.

In every endeavour, the aim is to meet the needs of Uganda’s development with projects that are efficient, effective and which have a wide impact on the quality of life for citizens of the country.
