The Aga Khan Park is delighted to invite members of the public to submit their interest in becoming the Pan Am lantern bearer at the Park’s inaugural public event “Reflections” on 5 July 2015.

It will be an exciting and rewarding occasion for the successful applicant, as she/he will become part of the legacy for the 2015 Pan Am Games and be honoured in the presence of their own community and dignitaries.

Applicants should be at least 13 years of age, have a passion in sports, understand the social and physical importance of green spaces in a community and be a resident from Toronto’s Ward 26.

Interested applicants should submit a short write up of a maximum of 200 words indicating the top three reasons why they should be selected as the lantern bearer.

The successful applicant will carry the lantern through the Aga Khan Park at 8 PM on that day.

The deadline for the application is Tuesday, 2 June at 5:00 PM EST.

Pan Am Games

7000+ Athletes from 41 Delegations

There are 6,000 athletes competing at the Pan Am Games and 1,600 athletes competing at the Parapan Am Games.

Pan Am Torch Relay – May 30 – July 10, 2015

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay will be a 41-day journey that will share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities. Deeply rooted in history and tradition, the Pan Am flame will be lit in May 2015 during a traditional ceremony in Teotihuacan, Mexico, before it travels to Canada.

The torch relay will start in Canada on May 30, 2015, and will make its final stop on July 10, 2015, at the Opening Ceremony of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games.

• 130 communities
• 60+ alternative modes of transportation

Pan Am Flame

The Pan Am flame represents the history and spirit of the Games; it is a symbol that unites the 41 Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) member nations.

The flame for the Pan Am Games is lit during a traditional ceremony at the Pyramid of the Sun, in Teotihuacan, Mexico. Following the lighting, the flame will be handed over to a representative from the Host City. The flame will then be flown back to Canada to begin its nationwide journey before arriving in Toronto to light the cauldron at Opening Ceremony, which signifies the start of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games.
