Today I went and visited Aga Khan, the best hospital in Kisumu. It’s a “modern” hospital. They have six patients to one nurse and all six patients are in one large room ward. They have the supplies that we use in the U.S. but it is usually limited in what supplies they have. I am used to having every patient with an IV line and fluids running in them. But I only saw a 2 ICU patients with fluid running in their lines. I was surprised that this tiny hospital had an ICU. The rest of the patients in the entire hospital had IV lines, without any fluids running. The hospital has two security guards at the doorway that scan you before you enter. But that is pretty much everywhere that you enter a public building. The staff can literally get into any department or ward without any key or ID badge. The hospital staff and pace in the hospital seems so relaxed without much going on. I wish it was like that in the hospitals in the U.S.
