September 13, 2013 The 10th occasion of the Asian Hospital Management Awards saw Aga Khan University Hospital win two awards. The Division of Nursing Services won the Gold award in the Innovations and Governance category for its ‘Modification in shift working hours for shift employees at Division of Nursing Services – The Aga Khan University Hospital’ project. The highlight of this project was an increase in staff productive hours equivalent to 45 full time employees and substantial cost-saving. The major outcomes were employee safety, work-life balance and increased satisfaction. At the same time the Materials Management Division won the Excellence award in the Service Improvement for Internal Customers category for its entry, ‘Supply chain re-engineering for pharmaceuticals’. The criteria for selection included the department’s understanding of the needs of its internal customers and how to effectively deal with them.The two entries were part of a total of 298 entries from 78 hospitals in 13 countries in the Asia Pacific region; the Awards recognize hospitals in the region which carry out best practices in hospital management.
