Decades of traditional philanthropy geared towards alleviating poverty have made a difference in countless lives. However, billions of people still lack a clear path towards improvements in their quality of life. To address these issues at home and abroad, communities are mobilizing local resources as a strategy for lifting people and communities out of poverty. Also known as Community Philanthropy, this approach works at the grass-roots level by raising capital from local stakeholders to be directed to those in the community with the greatest needs, or to causes that benefit the community as a whole.
