  1. Pet Peeve alert!!

I have repeatedly seen the Pakistani media state that 29 year old Mirza became the youngest Pakistani male to climb Everest in the same breath as Samina becoming the first Pakistani female to climb the world’s tallest peak. Fact is, Samina is not only the first female from Pakistani to get to the top, but at only 21 she is also the youngest Pakistani to do it – period. To clarify in another way, her achievement given her age is not best within a sub-category, as has been implied.

Mirza’s achievement, while note-worthy, needs really to be mentioned as a secondary point. It is not on equal footing, and in Western media (given the singular and unparalleled achievement by his sister) would be mentioned more as a footnote.
