First-ever diagnostic test for newborns introduced in Pakistan by the Aga Khan University

AKU_logoThe Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) on Wednesday claimed to become the first hospital in Pakistan to offer a comprehensive diagnostic testing service for inherited errors of metabolism (IEM) in newborns.

Inborn errors of metabolism are a broad group of rare genetic disorders by which the body cannot properly turn food into energy.

  1. Yeah we really need to have special hospitals in Pakistan, which would provide free treatment for such kind of physical,genetic, and mental diseases. In fact, we have no idea about our own genetic make up whether or not we have any genetic disease or disorder. However, due to the lack of screening facility, new born are not exposed to such new genetic screening. Nevertheless, by exposing individuals to screening and genetic testing probably we can prevent genetic and mental disease. Therefore, Pakistan really need such facilities so that new generation will not carry any genetic, physical or mental disease.
