Mississauga resident and women’s rights campaigner Almas Jiwani has received Interim Place’s Woman of Courage award.
Jiwani received the glass statuette at the women’s shelter’s Rays of Hope Gala on Saturday — and she immediately dedicated it to women who are rebuilding their lives after escaping abusive situations.
“Their strength comes from within, but also from knowing that they are not alone, that they have the support of their communities,” she told the 200-strong audience at the black-tie event.
