Following the news that Amsal was found at an Ismaili Cultural Center, the Ismaili community—a branch of Shia Muslims who number an estimated 30,000 in the Houston area—has been “watching it as it unfolds” and helping law enforcement agencies who recovered the boy, who is Ismaili, said local spokeswoman Saleena Jafry. They declined to give details on how Amsal ended up at the building or who discovered him there.
The community released a prepared statement saying, “We are very thankful that the child is back home and safe with the parents. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s office, the law enforcement officials from the City of Sugar Land and the community volunteers for their support and their tireless efforts in the search for Amsal.”
