In celebrating the life of Fraser Mustard, where does one begin?
David Crane: There is Fraser the pioneering medical researcher discovering the role of Aspirin in dissolving platelets that can clog our blood vessels and lead to heart attacks. There is Fraser, the dean of medicine at McMaster University and a pioneer in new ways to teach medicine.
There is Fraser the founding president of the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research, “a university without walls” that links top brains in universities across Canada and elsewhere. It looked at big questions — the social determinants of health, the role of ideas in economic growth, and early brain development. It pushed development of the Canadarm and links between researchers and businesses.
