Almas Jiwani, President of the UN Women Canada National Committee will address the Network of Women Parliamentarians of the Americas (Network) during the Annual Meeting of the Network which will be held in conjunction with the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Confederation of the Americas (COPA) in Quebec City, on September 6, 2011.
Ms. Jiwani will deliver the keynote address to open the conference on the theme of “Women’s Commitment to a Better Future: Water, Poverty, and Sustainable Development.” In her address, Ms. Jiwani will explore the alarming fact that, despite accounting for over one-half of the potential talent base across the world, the potential economic, social, and environmental contributions of women have largely been unutilized and underutilized.
The Network of Women Parliamentarians meets annual in conjunction with the General assembly of the COPA to share experiences on issues concerning gender equality.
