Sadiq Valliani named The Royal Canadian Legion Air Cadet of the Year

02/12/10 – OTTAWA, ON. – The Air Cadet League of Canada is happy to announce that WO2 Valliani, a member of 604 Moose Squadron in Calgary AB, has been named as the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet of the Year.

The Royal Canadian Legion Air Cadet of the Year acts as the youth representative for the annual National Remembrance Day Ceremony, held in Ottawa ON. During his time in Ottawa, WO2 Valliani was a member of the Vice-Regal Party for the National Remembrance Day Ceremonies and assisted with laying wreaths. He also received the Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence and participated in many other ceremonies during this time.

WO2 Valliani has been an active member of his squadron since joining. He is currently a member of the Squadron’s Mess Committee; he is a past member of the squadron’s Flag Party; he has participated in Ground School; and was a member of the Flag Party for 604’s demonstration in the Victoria Bank Competition and Tattoo in 2009. In 2006, WO2 Valliani completed his Basic Course and followed by his Leadership course in 2007. Most recently, he served at Cold Lake Air Cadet Training Centre as a Support Staff Cadet. This past summer he acted as an ambassador of the Canadian Air Cadets during the International Air Cadet Exchange which took place in Australia. He is also currently a member of Mount Royal University’s Student Council.

Captain Van Apeldoorn was quoted as saying, “Throughout his cadet career, WO2 Valliani has demonstrated a keen desire for self improvement and personal development. He regularly seeks feedback from his officers, senior cadets and peers on his performance, and upon receipt, he quickly moves to modify his approach to his duties as a leader and instructor and in doing so became one of the squadron’s elite cadets.” We would like to congratulate WO2 Valliani and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
