Karim Gillani: Learning the Message of Devotional Music Across Faiths

Historically, South Asian music flourished under the patronage of wealthy individuals and families. Today, in North America universities have become major patrons in supporting the presentation and understanding of such music, alongside community groups and music societies. Under the supervision of ethnomusicology professor, Regula Qureshi, Jessica Keyes and Karim Gillani have had the opportunity to study different types of South Asian devotional music in a distinctly Canadian context.

Without any doubt the cultural, religious and musical heritage of diverse Muslims represent the mystical dimension of Islam which needs to be shared across in the West rather then stereo type image of Muslims which we often see now a days in the Western media!
