UBC Continuing Studies collaborates with other members of the UBC community to provide an ongoing series of free lectures, dialogues and debates on topics of interest to the general public – locally, nationally and internationally. The Lifelong Learning Series is held in the fall and winter terms at UBC Robson Square and is recorded for podcast.

Global Islam, Garbled Impressions: Fostering Understanding in a Divided World
SHAFIQUE N. VIRANI, PhD
Shafique Virani is an award-winning author and internationally renowned public speaker. After receiving his PhD from Harvard University, he served on the faculty at Harvard, was Head of World Humanities at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates, and is currently Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Toronto. His landmark book, The Ismailis in the Middle Ages: A History of Survival, A Search for Salvation (2007), was published by Oxford University Press.
