As a political reporter at the Province for nearly 20 years, Don covered his share of real-life characters. But the one I went by his place to talk about last week wasn’t your garden variety, smooth talking, baby-kissing, promise-making Victoria-type.
I wanted to talk about Hakeem Jinnah.
“He’s greedy and he has a superficial streak in him, but at heart he’s a good guy,” says Don with a laugh.
“And he’s the consummate outsider. He’s Indo-Canadian but he’s not a Sikh, he’s an Ismaili Muslim. He’s an outsider even in his own community.”
