Zul Merali is President/CEO of the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR) and full professor in the faculties of Medicine (Departments of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Psychiatry) and Social Sciences (Psychology) at the University of Ottawa, and research professor at the Institute of Neuroscience at Carleton University.
Dr. Merali obtained his PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Ottawa and is well known in his field as an effective collaborative investigator and a strong critical thinker. His research focus is in the area of stress, from the cellular to the behavioural level.
His multi-faceted experience in conducting peer-reviewed, externally funded research involving both human and infrahuman studies, in building multidisciplinary research teams, and in communicating effectively with scientific peers, students and the general public, will be critical to developing the IMHR into an internationally recognized research institute.
