But there are a few reasons why the hashish-assassin myth is almost certainly wrong. First, if hashish is given in a large enough dose to cause unconsciousness, it will first cause nausea and hallucinations – which are usually very scary and unpleasant to the unsuspecting user. Second, Hassan was a deeply puritanical and ascetic person, who strictly followed the Koran. So much so, when two of his own sons were separately accused of drunkenness and murder, he personally had them executed.
