Excerpt:
The passage of my family’s immigration to, and therefore continued survival and growth in Canada, would not have been possible without an enduring faith-based resilience. One of the central ideals of Islam is the enablement of each person to live up to his exalted status in the service of God and humanity. In light of this, my family always pictured a place in which opportunity would not solely be grounded in political narratives of colonization and expulsion, but rather would be framed in the ethics of equality and fairness, so that the obligation of individual capacity and social responsibility could be fulfilled.
Canada welcomed and made possible the Lalji family’s dream for a better world for their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. It is now our turn to embrace our Canadian family and sustainability as a value proposition, and to unite with the centre and its partners, which include a number of like-minded organizations, such as BC Hydro and Vancity.

Bravo! The Lalji family has to be highly commended for its philanthropy, faith-based values, and farsighted vision.
Thank you to the Lalji family for its generous commitment to enhancing civil society. And thanks of course, for the family’s earlier endowment of the new ‘Centre for the Comparative Study of Muslim Societies and Cultures’ at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby.
