The “Social Development Program in Eastern and South-eastern Tajikistan” implemented by AKF in 2002 to 2006 provided accessible and affordable quality service that improved the health status of the residents of GBAO. It affected especially the geographically remote and disadvantaged, women of reproductive age and children under five. Through capacity building, restructuring and strengthening the district health management, promotion of rational pharmaceutical policies and management, improvement of the Health Management Information System and development of essential hospital services it achieved effective and sustainable effects.
