Comprised of members hailing from Vancouver to Montreal, the Canadian Ismaili Muslim Youth Choir (CIMYC) was formed in September 2007 under the Arts and Culture Portfolio of the Ismaili Council for Canada, in commemoration of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee. The group is led by professional music director Hussein Janmohamed, and has four singers for each of the soprano, alto, tenor and bass parts.

  1. I saw and listened to the Canadian Ismaili Muslim Youth Choir at the inaugural of the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat in Ottawa on December 6th 2008 and they were superb and really revved us up for the seminal event of that day.

  3. Shukran!!!

Thanks Easy Nash and Karim. It’s a real blessing to perform for jamats across Canada and particularly to perform at the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat. We felt like we were in heaven as our voices filled the atrium. Shukran for sure!

The choir has truly been an ensemble effort – from programmers, managers, singers, producers, choral mentors, recording engineers, production consultants, transporation, hospitality, audio visual, catering and so many passionate volunteers across the country. Thank you!

You know, the work of a choral conductor would be in vain, were it not for the singers. We would simply be waving our arms in thin air. The singers make it real and possible for a conductor to do their job. And in this case, what an amazing group of youth – singers with passion, with commitment and with a deep desire to share music with others.

And choral music has something magical about it – when voices come together in harmony, somehow for me it touches the soul deeply. It speaks to an inner pluralism, and deep interconnectedness with the divine and with creation. We are really lucky to be a part of this choir, and Inshallah, this is one way we can inspire a spark of hope.

Karim, let’s not forget the outstanding work of the National Ismaili Music Ensemble. It’s amazing how you all came together in such a short time to create and perform intercultural music at the Institutional dinner in Vancouver and at the opening of the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat. Congratulations!

    With gratitude,

    Hussein
