Support urged for AKUH welfare programme

KARACHI: The Executive Committee of Patients Behbud Society for Agha Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi, Chairman, M R Monem has advised the business community to come forward and support them by way of donations and Zakat payments to carry out the welfare programme more effectively.

Monem visited the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday and made a presentation on “The Patients’ Behbud Society for AKUH”, highlighting the objective of the society towards awareness of the general public.

He explained in his presentation that the said society is being run with donation and Zakat of the well-off, and is being managed in accordance with the Shariah. He narrated a few examples of the poor, needy and deserving patients who have been provided necessary treatment with the financial support by this society and are leading normal lives.

Monem informed that 500,000 patients visit AKUH, out of which more than 70 per cent belong to the middle and lower class and 25 per cent of the treatment expenses are contributed through welfare support of AKUH.
