The route was damp but not the spirits at Ismaili Walk for Women

Despite wet weather, several hundred people took part in the sevenkilometre walk, raising $300,000 for the Women’s Health Research Institute at B.C. Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. At right, volunteers prepare hot food for the participants.

The route was damp but not the spirits of about 25-hundred people who took part in this years Ismaili Walk for Women in Stanley Park.

Sarah Morgan-Sylvester, the Chair of the BC Women’s Hospital and Health Center Foundation says money raised goes to the Foundation to support research initiatives, “So we have entered into a 3 year partnership with the Ismaili community. So this is just the first year, just the beginning, and we’ve got another two years to go. So we’re really hoping that the total proceeds will top a million dollars and that will certainly be a terrific contribution towards women’s health in BC.”

At the end of Sunday’s walk a cheque was presented on behalf of the Ismaili Council for BC for 275-thousand dollars.
