AGA Khan Primary School is constructing a library worth sh7m for St. Noah Primary School in Wakiso district. The initiative is part of the Aga Khan School’s community service project and exchange programme with St. Noah Primary School.
Hannington Arinaitwe, the deputy head teacher of Aga Khan and chairperson of the Community Service Club, said the library, which will be completed next year, is aimed at boosting literacy.
“For the past years, we have been donating books to the school, but it did not have a library where the books could be kept safely,” he said.
He said funds for the project were raised by the Aga Khan School administration, Pike School in America and Aga Khan students.
He said the students raised the money through activities like car washing, casual wear days, where students pay to wear casual dresses, donations from parents and by selling toys and pastries.
He called upon other schools, especially those in urban areas, to assist rural ones.
Ronald Mwebe, the deputy head teacher of St Noah, appealed to the Government and well-wishers for funding, saying the school lacks teachers and textbooks, which affects their service delivery.
