Langley Advance’s Mitch Desrochers is grateful to be involved in the walk.

When Mitch Desrochers became one of the first non-Ismaili persons on the organizing committee of the World Partnership Walk, he admits, it wasn’t really the type of volunteer undertaking he’d been seeking – or so he thought.
But since he’d promised Alnoor Tejpar, general manager of the Langley’s Hampton Inn and a long-time client, that he’d help out, he kept his word.
As a sales representative with the Langley Advance, he hoped he could bring to the table his years of experience working with media.
Amazingly, it was more than a year and a half ago that he joined the non-denominational charity, called Aga Khan Foundation Canada, which organizes the annual walk as part of its ongoing efforts to end poverty in Asia and Africa.
And today, Desrochers said, that volunteer job – while labour intensive – has proven extremely fulfilling.
Much to his own surprise, he said, it has helped him grow tremendously as a human being, and he’s now grateful for the opportunity he’s been given to get involved.
“You show up that one day, and you see this sea of people, and you know what it’s all about, what you’ve been working months to achieve. It makes it all worthwhile,” said Desrochers, who has taken on the added duties as deputy convenor for media for the walk.
