If Norman Foster Built in Bamboo… From House and Garden Magazine

The thing I find fascinating, and that I suspect appeals to architectural juries everywhere, is that the Rudrapur school is a perfect amalgam of indigenous materials and modern methods. When I look at the bamboo structure of the roof (see below), for example, I see something that could have been engineered by Ove Arup. In the simplest, loveliest way, this building heals the rift between modernism and the vernacular, between the International Style and traditional building techniques. It’s at once humble and brilliant. I’d give it a prize, too.
