In another development, it has also been learnt that His Highness the Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, is scheduled to meet with the East African heads of state in Arusha on Monday as part of the Tanzanian leg of his 12-day East African tour.

The Aga Khan embarked on the regional tour last week, visiting both Uganda and Kenya where he inaugurated a number of development projects under the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).

This is his first official visit to the region since he completed 50 years as the Imam (spiritual leader) of over 15 million Ismaili Muslims living in more than 20 countries of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America.

In Nairobi, where the tour commenced, the Aga Khan launched the Faculty of Health Sciences of the East African chapter at the Aga Khan University in Nairobi.

He also presided over the laying of the foundation stone for the residential campus of the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa, the new Aga Khan Academy in Kampala, and Uganda’s Bujagali hydro-power project.
