Journey to Pakistan

[Margaret sends this entry about her recent trip to Pakistan]

I have returned from a fairy tale. From a foreign land where, for one week, I was treated like a princess. Because I am the wife of the ‘prince’ a privileged guest visiting a prestigious University in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The next day in Karachi and we are showered with hospitality, cordiality and a most generous welcome by a happy openhearted modern and intelligent staff at Institute of Education Aga Khan University. In the days that followed my husband worked long hours with his colleagues and I was taken to bazaars, hand-craft shops of wondrous fabrics, rugs, wall hangings and bed quilts, bronze and jade and silver artifacts, escorted to museums and mosques – always with a chauffer and a guide. To the museums – seeing ceramic traditions in one and the archeological remains from the Indus Valley civilizations though the various invasions and leaderships of the country’s turbulent history.
