Community Service
HAKAM BHALOO
Hakam Bhaloo has taken initiative in serving as a lifelong volunteer, and demonstrated leadership qualities since his early days by joining the Scouting movement. At the age of 12, he joined the Ismaili Volunteer Corps, later becoming a lieutenant and vice-captain, and he has never looked back in serving any community he has been part of. Coming to Canada in 1974, Hakam continued with his passion for community service by volunteering his time to assist new immigrants in settlement and teaching English as a second language. Not stopping there, he continued giving most of his time to numerous organizations and currently sits on their boards. He is a very highly respected individual in the community. He demonstrated work of high quality and is a community leader admired and respected by his team and fellow workers, and he has been a role model for a number of other volunteers. Hakam’s service to the world community and his leadership to his fellow workers have earned him several honours and awards from all three levels of government. He is definitely a role model and promotes the positive image, ethics, and values of the CRA.
Message from the Commissioners:
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) believes strongly in recognizing the contributions of its workforce. Since becoming an agency in 1999, the CRA Award of Excellence has been presented to exceptional employees in recognition of their tremendous efforts in their working lives and communities. This award is the most prestigious an employee can receive from the CRA, and this year we are pleased to congratulate Hakam, an outstanding recipient.
Our colleagues are being recognized in 10 categories for qualities such as their abilities as leaders, their promotion of success during organizational change, and their dedicated support of the CRA’s corporate goals. Many of the recipients have been involved in promoting compliance and trust, and in increasing morale through creative learning and motivation of employees. The Award nominations are proof of the extent to which CRA employees are giving back to their communities through volunteer work. Regardless of the category, one thing that all of this year’s recipients have in common is their commitment to the CRA and those it serves.
Because this is a peer-nominated award, we would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all your colleagues, to extend heartfelt congratulations to you as CRA Award of Excellence recipient. Your enthusiasm and commitment do not go unnoticed.
Thank you for your outstanding contributions, for giving back to the communities we serve, and for your part in making the CRA the employer and service provider of choice.
