AKUH holds session on health

The Community Health Sciences (CHS) Department of the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) held a brainstorming session with representatives of the city government and certain other private organisations to review the CHS’s standing involvement in the provision of health facilities to the city’s most neglected communities.

The programme was held to identify areas, requirements and project models to be implemented by the CHS in certain localities in collaboration with the government.

Chairman, CHS, Dr Gregory Pappas said: “Primary health care is what Pakistan needs and the problem is that we haven’t taken it to a greater audience. Now is the time to think how we can work in collaboration with the government.”

He said that earlier the government had a smaller health budget and they were spending without figuring how to use it in the best way. Now the government has realised its limitation which is a very significant turn in policy. Now they are looking forward and encouraging the private sector in its projects.
