Achievements of Medical College students in extra-curricular activities

Medical college students take active part in various national and international seminars, debates, congresses and conferences. They also deliver presentations and submit abstracts based on their research projects with AKU faculty. On many occasions, AKU students have excelled in these research activities and have also won awards, cash prizes and trophies. Following are some highlights:

On the International front

1. Ms. Fatima Samad, a fourth-year student, participated in the 71^st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society held in Kobe, Japan during March 2007.
2. Mr. Hashim Hanif, a second-year student, presented his research paper at the Fifth Leiden International Medical Student Congress held March 2007 in Leiden, Netherlands.
3. Seven students were accepted to present their research papers at the 15^th Annual International Aim Shams’ Medical Students’ Congress held in Cairo, Egypt, during February 2007. Mr. Saqib Ali Gowani, a fourth-year student won the 2^nd Oral Presentation Award. (attached group photograph shows Mr. Gowani holding his award)
4. Mr. Hassan Khan, a second-year student, participated? Did he present a paper? in the 17^th European Students’ Conference, held in Berlin, Germany during October 2006.

On the National front

1. All Pakistan Inter-University Debating Contest for Award of ‘Allama Iqbal Shield’ was held at NED University, Karachi in March 2007. Mr. Muhammad Umair Bashir, a second-year student obtained 1st Position and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- for his excellent debate in English.
2. Sixth GIKI Parliamentary Debates were held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI), Topi, NWFP, in February 2007. Syed Asad Daniyal, a second-year student, received the 1^st Best English Speaker’s Trophy.
3. 4^th International Shahjiwana Debating Competition 2007 was held at University College Lahore, Lahore, in February 2007. The AKU team won the First Position and won a trophy. (Names of students : Mr. Khurram Owais, Mr. Aziz Ahmed, Mr. Umar Bhatti, Mr. Ahsan Raza, Mr. Umar Rashid, Mr. Umar Tariq and Mr. Haider Warraich).
4. All Pakistan Inter-University Debating Contest for Award of ‘Allama Iqbal Shield’ hosted by the Aga Khan University, Karachi in December 2006. Mr. Amad Khan and Mr. Omer Tarar secured 1^st position, trophy and cash prize of Rs. 1,500/-
5. Mr. Muhammad Umair Bashir and Mr. Shahid Sattar, obtained 2^nd Position and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000/- Mr. Hassan Sajjad and Mr. Moneeb Virk obtained 3^rd Position and a cash prize of Rs. 500/-
6. 15^th All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest 2006 was held at Cadet College Pataro, Petaro in November 2006. Mr. Omer Tarar won the Consolation Prize for his speech in Urdu.
