KARACHI: The Aga Khan Foundation is in the process of setting up a University of Arts and Sciences in Karachi.

Sources of banking industry said on Thursday that Prince Karim Aga Khan, in a recent meeting with Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Dr Shamshad Akhtar, had informed her about the setting up of this new university.

Sources said that SBP on the pattern of Singapore Monetary Authority (SMA) wants to establish state-of-the-art School of Business and Finance by following the educational standards of London School of Economics in Karachi.

The SMA had already established such school of Business and Finance in Singapore, for which the Singaporean commercial banks contributed both in terms of money and related resources.

Sources said that SBP governor had placed the idea before a select group of bankers that the proposed School of Business and Finance could be affiliated with Aga Khan University of Arts and Sciences.

Like Singapore Monetary Authority, students will be picked up at their high school studies and after graduation and Master of Sciences in Business and Finance they will serve SBP for a specified period.
