Young Engineering Officer of the Year – Husnen Rupani
Husnen Rupani, a resource developer and sessional teacher at RMIT University – TAFE in Melbourne, has been declared Engineers Australia’s 2006 Young Engineering Officer of the Year.
The prestigious award, sponsored by Snowy Hydro, was announced before over 400 guests who attended the 2006 Australian Engineering Excellence Awards dinner held at Parliament House Canberra last night.
Husnen, who holds an Advanced Diploma of Electronics Engineering, was selected for the award on the basis of his academic record and interest in professional, social and community
activities.
He has worked on many projects including programming a microcontroller as a warning system for the blind or vision impaired which warns the user about the distance and direction of an object.
Recognition of his talents have also been highlighted through other awards that include Electrical / electronics Award for Most Outstanding First Year student in Advanced Diploma of Electronics Engineering 92004), and Electronics Technicians Institute of Australia (Victoria
Division) JR Wales Memorial Trophy for Most Outstanding Student in the Advanced Diploma of Electronic Engineering (2005)
Other Engineers Australia members who were also honoured at the awards night were:
Ross Magno – 2006 Engineering Officer of the Year. Ross is Commanding Officer 25 (City of Perth) Squadron at RAAF Pearce Base.
Scott Campbell – 2006 Professional Engineer of the Year. Scott is the Manager of GHD’s Newcastle Operating Centre.
Andrew Botros – 2006 Young Professional Engineer of the Year. Andrew is an engineer with Cochlear Ltd, the Australian manufacturer of the ‘Bionic Ear’ in Sydney.
